Over time the area's sunny days and sugar-white beaches, mild climate and abundant wildlife became more well known and it was subsequently likened to Naples in Italy and so the city got its name. Naples quickly gained a reputation as a winter resort and the local social life included visits by celebrities such as Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, Greta Garbo and Gary Cooper.
